Subnetwork technology

Subnetworking is the splitting of an overall network plan into several subnetworks that cover only a certain part of the project and are structurally linked to other subnetworks of the same project. It is mainly used in large-scale projects. The subnetwork technique involves the decomposition of the network and the composition of the resulting subnetworks, which is called network linking. In the latter, care must be taken to use different number ranges for the activities of the various subnetworks (e.g. for the activities of subnetwork 1 the numbers 11-19, for those of subnetwork 2 the numbers 21-29, for the activities of subnetwork 3 the numbers 31-39, etc.). A network can be subdivided according to several aspects, e.g. according to project phases, according to the subtasks listed in the work breakdown structure, according to organizational or functional aspects.
